ive said it twice, auburn made the big plays when it counted. they took advantage of mistakes and made alabama pay in the second half. auburn only had two longer TD drive, the other were long bombs that auburn made huge gains, hitting the open guys on blown assignments or having mark barron make an epic goof up and not pick that ball. and the defense didnt let bama do anything in teh second half. the run game showed up for a bit then would disappear again, with auburn making the stops late. mcelwain was terrible after halftime, he has been bad at times this year. how many deep balls did bama try after the half compared to before? all kinds of success on the AU corners but went away from it.
alabama bottled up cam in the running game, he was only able to get positive gains less than 10 times, but he made huge throws in teh pass game.
on the fairley play; cmon, how many times have you ever seen that happen? the guard just lets teh DT go right by, then stands there and looks around while the same DT is able to get that fumble?
mark ingram fumbles once a career til friday; he puts the ball on the ground three times.
but its like AU didnt get some breaks too. julio, who has killed the au cb's for 10 catches and 199 yards, gets hurt before the last two drives of the game? auburn only had two penalties called as well, thats pretty unbelievable in a game like that. not saying it was ness. terribly called, but that just doesnt happen. its either a couple missed calls (and the non-PI late on 2nd down of the next to last bama drive on the pass across the middle was one) or a team played very, very well. auburn did, and they won late.
auburn stopped the bama run for the most part, was able to hit a couple outside runs late to pick up 1st downs and those big pass plays, came up big in the 2nd half.
but its a tough loss to handle, yeah. put up **** near 500 yards of offense, julio had almost 200 yards, mcelroy was excellent, a career high, hold a top 5 offense in country to 28 points and under 400 yards, shutting down the SEC's top rusher, holding him to 39 yards, jump out to a 24 point lead in the 2nd quarter, leave 17 potential points on the board in the first half with redzone turnovers, then have your starting QB go out before the most important drive of the season.
auburn played big and great after halftime, no doubt. but its tough to feel like bama played its best, especially after halftime and came up short,
they contributed some to auburn's great performance after the half, ill say that
